Maca Root
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root vegetable known as a superfood, grown in the harsh conditions of the Peruvian Andes. It is also known as Peruvian ginseng. Maca root grows high in the Andes mountains in rugged conditions, where the weather ranges from cold to hot.
Supermaca
Foodin’s Peruvian partner is one of the pioneers in the cultivation and processing of maca. Supermaca is a unique product and the result of a long development process, resulting in an exceptionally strong maca powder. Supermaca contains up to 2% glucosinolates, the active compounds of maca. It is therefore a highly concentrated maca powder that includes all three different maca varieties: black, red and yellow.
Harvesting and Drying
Supermaca is harvested fresh in the Andes mountains and dried in a controlled environment using specially made equipment. Normally maca roots are dried in the sun for several weeks, which results in a considerably lower glucosinolate content, as little as 0.1%.
