Medicinal Plant
Crataegus, or hawthorn, is a traditional medicinal plant with red berries and thorny stems. During the Second World War, hawthorn seeds were ground and used in place of coffee in Europe. The leaves, in turn, were made into tea. Hawthorn has been used as a strengthening remedy since the 15th century.
Alfred Vogel
Alfred Vogel became acquainted with the berries as a child, when they were a great treat for him. Later on, he developed an extract from the berries for heart complaints.
